Drunkenness behind the wheel
Drunk driving is one of the most common traffic crimes with serious consequences. Alcohol is something common in our society and is present in parties, celebrations and the most diverse social gatherings. It turns out that in Brazil, due to the immense number of accidents, a zero-tolerance legislation was created with driving and alcohol.
Therefore, committing the crime of drunk driving is very easy and it is not necessary to be severely intoxicated. The result of this zero-tolerance policy is being approached at a traffic stop. This situation is not comfortable at all, especially when you are asked to take a breathalyzer test. The tolerance limit that a driver can have of alcohol in his/her body is very low and, even if the driver consumed alcohol moderately, he/she will be committing the crime of drunk driving.
Whenever possible, the guidance of a criminal lawyer is very important, in order to help the driver (offender), to proceed correctly in that specific situation. The unexpected approach of the police authority can make people very nervous, stressed and emotionally shaken. It is worth remembering that drunkenness is not restricted to alcohol alone. Being under the influence of narcotics, psychotropics, drugs in excess, or using any substance that causes the loss of reflexes or changes in the person's motor responses is considered drunk driving.
